It Takes a Village

The Work

A large-scale interactive sculpture installed in the VCA Forecourt, Southbank. It Takes a Village is a digital creature, essentially a big Tamagotchi.

It is a shared, living entity that only exists through the collective care of strangers passing through the site.

Visitors feed, tend, or play with the creature. Without ongoing interaction from the public, it slowly deteriorates or dies.

The work asks: can strangers, without coordination or obligation, choose to care for a shared digital life?
